Watch a virus spread among people and see how it is affected by different parameters.

Inspired by an article in The Washington Post: Why outbreaks like coronavirus spread exponentially, and how to “flatten the curve”

Parameters

* Number of people
* Movement speed
* Incubation time -- time between becoming infected and becoming sick
* Illness time -- how long a person is sick
* Mortality rate -- percentage of sick people that die
* "Social distancing" -- percentage of people that minimize their movement to avoid spreading the infection

1k people, 50 movement speed, 1sec incubation, illness time 3sec, 100% mortality, 0% social distancing  watch the magic :)

This game is an awesome tool to explain pandemics,  great job!

Nice simulation! I made my own is javascript which you might be interested in, as it is happens to be pretty similar. Your simulation has more parameters to control tough, and was inspired by a different source (3Blue1Brown's Simulating an Epidemic was my inspiration). If you want to check it out:

CORONAVIRUS GAEMZ FTW

I'm in quarantine D; and I play this every day

Btw, 2 the dev:

Plz expand the parameters. They're not big enough. Nice gaame tho <3

i frickin kno, im so sillyy

This is great and very visual.

What would be awesome if yuo could add objects (building footprints, corridors etc.) and see how the simulatio pansout.

Supermarket Sweep meets Covid19.

The program so far has really help people visuallise the importance of self isolation.

Well done.

Thanks! I thought about laying out a town and trying to simulate movement within the town, and I may still try that later.

If you watched 3Brown1Blue's video (linked below), his model looked at "what if there was a central point that everyone went to", or "what if the people were split into multiple smaller communities".

Lots of fun ideas of things to add.

and Zombies ;-)  one of dots the user could take control of and try to survive..... plus guns.  Like a top down shooter with infected running around.

Still great stuff.

I tested the coronavirus using americas parameters,  30 out of 1000 americans will not make it through, (although the test was not perfect and scientific tests are more reliable)

Thanks for trying this out!

what are the parameters(game-based) for the actual coronavirus? i also wanna try and see, btw i agree on the science bit.

the parameters are movement speed 30, mortality rate 3% number of people as many as you want, incubation 8s (8 days in real time) sick time 14s (2 weeks real time)

thank you GunShotChief :D

An excellent look at the same idea, in video form:
